This weekend I decided to join our local rec center so that I could establish a regular exercise routine. I have an elliptical to use at home but it is challenging to get a good workout in when my kids are constantly interrupting me. So instead of continuing to make excuses for why I can’t work out, I joined the rec center so that I can set aside time to go work out without interruptions.
My plan is to allow myself about an hour to work out. So on Sunday I went to work out for the first time and did 30 minutes on the treadmill and spent about 20 minutes lifting weights. I focused on my arms on Sunday and on Monday I switched to focusing on my legs. So that is what I’m going to start with for now: 30-40 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of weight lifting, alternating my focus on either arms or legs. I know there are other weight lifting exercises I can do, but this is what I’ve decided to start with so that I can get into a good routine of working out.
I am hoping to work out Mon-Fri and sometimes on the weekends. I go work out while my son is at school and my mother-in-law watches my daughter. I am so thankful that she is willing to do this because it helps me know that my kids are taken care of and I can spend that one hour taking better care of my body. When my son is done with school for the year my mother-in-law will still watch both of them for me. Also, when my husband is not in the field I can go work out on the weekends.
I am really excited about starting this new exercise routine because I really think it will help with my weight loss and give me that extra boost to get to my goals faster. So if you are considering joining a gym I would highly recommend it. Even if you have never been to a gym, just give it a chance and you will love it! I was nervous at first because I was worried about people watching me work out but in reality everyone there is focused on their own work out, so they are not paying attention to what I’m doing. And besides, I don’t care how I look while I am working out, I know that I am doing what I can to improve my health and take better care of my body!
